RAM in Canada — DDR5 & DDR4

DDR4 and DDR5 modules are keyed differently and are not interchangeable; a DDR5 stick will not physically fit a DDR4 slot, and vice versa. Check your motherboard's specification sheet, or your laptop/prebuilt's documentation, to confirm which standard it supports before buying.

DDR5-6000 refers to the data transfer rate in megatransfers per second (MT/s); a higher number generally means faster memory. CL36 is the CAS latency, the clock cycles before the memory responds to a request. Lower CL at the same speed is technically quicker, but the real-world difference is usually small for most everyday use.

For best results, use identical sticks (same capacity, speed, and timings) as a kit, since most motherboards run dual- or quad-channel memory more reliably that way. Mixed modules can technically work, but the system typically drops all sticks to the slower module's speed, and stability issues become more likely.

Desktop RAM uses the larger DIMM form factor, while laptops and some mini PCs use the smaller SO-DIMM format; the two are not physically interchangeable. Both come in DDR4 and DDR5 versions, so you need to match both the form factor (DIMM vs SO-DIMM) and the generation (DDR4 vs DDR5) to your device.

If a module doesn't work out of the box, Devino covers return shipping and sends a replacement or a full refund; email support@devino.ca with your order number to start. Most items also qualify for a standard 30-day return, provided the RAM comes back in the condition it arrived, including anti-static packaging.
