Samsung SSDs in Canada — NVMe, SATA & Portable

The 9100 PRO, Samsung's PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD, rated for sequential reads up to 14,700 MB/s. Next come the PCIe 4.0 990 PRO (up to 7,450 MB/s) and 990 EVO Plus (up to 7,250 MB/s). The 870 EVO is a 2.5" SATA drive, capped by the interface at 560 MB/s. Of the portable drives, the T9 reaches 2,000 MB/s and the T7 and T7 Shield 1,050 MB/s.

Most recent laptops take an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD, so a bare 990 EVO Plus or 990 PRO is the usual pick; the heatsink versions are too thick for most laptops. Older laptops with a 2.5" drive bay and no M.2 slot take a SATA SSD such as the 870 EVO. Check the laptop's manual or spec sheet for the slot type before ordering.

The 9100 PRO needs a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot to reach its rated 14,700 MB/s; in a PCIe 4.0 slot or a PS5 it runs at Gen4 speed, close to a 990 PRO. Pick the 9100 PRO for a Gen5 motherboard and very large file transfers; for a Gen4 board or a PS5, the 990 PRO delivers nearly the same real-world speed.

Yes. Samsung Magician, a free download from Samsung's website, updates firmware, shows drive health and runs benchmarks for Samsung SSDs. The T7 and T9 portable SSDs also have Samsung's portable SSD software for password protection and firmware updates on PC, Mac and Android.

Each listing states its condition. Most are new and factory sealed; the few open-box and used drives are benchmarked before they ship, are marked as such, and are covered by the same 30-day return guarantee.
